The Kern Medical Primary Care Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program is dedicated to training physicians to address the complex challenges of addiction care. Based at Kern Medical, a 222-bed acute care teaching hospital in Bakersfield, California, the program provides comprehensive training in substance, alcohol, and behavioral addiction management across all age groups.
Our fellows gain experience in diverse settings, including inpatient consult services, outpatient MAT clinics, correctional facilities, shelter medicine, and street medicine programs. These rotations include renowned sites such as Aegis Treatment Centers, Kern Behavioral Health & Recovery Services, CAPK M Street and Brundage Lane Navigation Centers, and Kern County Detention facilities.
Supported by a team of experienced, board-certified faculty with academic appointments at the David Geffen School of Medicine, the fellowship emphasizes mentorship, scholarly activity, and hands-on learning. Fellows engage in clinical and observational research, presenting findings at local, regional, and international conferences.
As part of Kern Medical’s long-standing mission to advance healthcare education and community well-being, the Primary Care Addiction Medicine Fellowship equips graduates with the skills and confidence to transform lives through expert addiction care. Join us and help make a meaningful impact in the vital field of addiction medicine.
