Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist medications are FDA-approved medications for treatment of diabetes and obesity that show promise for treatment of multiple classes of substance use disorders. The panel of presenters for this Focus Session includes researchers and clinicians who will discuss their own and other clinical trials of GLP-1 agonists for substance use disorders.

Learning Objectives:

Learners will be able to:

Recall mechanisms of action and current clinical use of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist medications.
Recognize pre-clinical and human subject research evidence for utility of GLP-1 agonists in treatment of substance use disorders.
Discuss potential clinical use of GLP-1 agonist medications for treatment of addiction to nicotine, stimulants, alcohol, and other substances.
