Dr. Lisa Fortuna is Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Neurosciences at the University of California, Riverside, School of Medicine. She is a bilingual and bicultural psychiatrist, child and adolescent psychiatrist, addiction medicine provider, and health services researcher. Her career has been dedicated to improving access to behavioral health services for traditionally underserved communities, including adolescents with substance use disorders. Dr. Fortuna has has served as a principal investigator for nationally and internationally funded research supported by the NIH, PCORI, and various foundations. Her research includes innovative models for addressing mental health care for PTSD and substance use disorders, as well as digital health interventions for adults, youth, and immigrant families. In 2022, she was awarded the Irving Philips Award for Prevention by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, recognizing her significant lifetime contributions to the prevention of child mental illness. In 2023, she received the APA Agnes Purcell McGavin Award for Prevention, honoring her contributions to the prevention of mental disorders in children and adolescents and her impact on youth well-being. Dr. Fortuna also serves as an expert advisor and editorial team member for the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), contributing to the ASAM Criteria adolescent standards.
