Haydr Dutta is a SUMR Research Intern at the University of Pennsylvania and an advocate for harm reduction and equitable healthcare. They conduct qualitative research with Dr. Deanna Wilson at Penn Presbyterian Hospital, investigating how healthcare systems can better address the needs of people who use drugs. As part of the Philadelphia site of THRIVE (Teaching Harm Reduction in Vulnerable Environments), Haydr’s work focuses on relational harm reduction, communities of care, and research methods that engage people with lived experience.
Haydr also works with Dr. Amy Hillier at Penn’s School of Social Work and Social Policy, conducting mixed methods research toward the development of a Gender Screener for pediatric offices. This project aims to identify gender-diverse children who may benefit from additional healthcare support, such as counseling or referrals to gender specialty care.
Haydr’s academic and professional interests include harm reduction, addressing health inequities, and restorative justice. They are currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Public Health at the University of Pennsylvania, with an expected graduation in May 2026.
