Hannah Bard earned her Bachelor of Arts in Medical Science from Boston University and is currently a third-year medical student at the Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. Her research during medical school has primarily focused on improving outcomes for individuals with opioid use disorder, particularly those affected by surgical trauma. Additionally, she has been actively involved in research and advocacy addressing community gun violence as well as projects related to health care disparities. Hannah is extensively involved in the Boston University chapter of Socially Responsible Surgery which engages surgeons and medical students that are committed to improving health equity. She is passionate about community engagement and has volunteered at local harm-reduction centers and advocated for the establishment of overdose prevention centers in Boston, including providing testimony at the Massachusetts State House in support of proposed legislation. This fall, Hannah plans to apply to general surgery residency programs. She is committed to leveraging her unique perspective as a physician-in-training to continue her advocacy work, particularly on behalf of individuals with substance use disorders.
