Dr. Dostal joined the Division of General Medicine after completing Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He received both his Ph.D. in Neuroscience and M.D. at the University of Illinois. Prior to his graduate studies, he obtained his B.S. in Aerospace Engineering at U.T. Austin and worked as a Field Engineer. He is originally from South Texas and is also fluent in Spanish.
Dr. Dostal sees private clinic patients and is faculty preceptor for internal medicine residents on the Powell Team. He is a member of UTMB's Center for Addiction Sciences and Therapeutics (CAST) and provider in UTMB's new Substance Use Disorder Clinic. He also attends the medical wards of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and Jennie Sealy Hospitals. He is further involved in medical student education as a Practice of Medicine course facilitator and lecturer for the Transition to Residency course.
Dr. Dostal’s current academic interests include addiction medicine, medical education, disaster/humanitarian medicine and optimizing human health and performance in remote and challenging environments.
