Mx. Austen Markus, MPH, is a Research Coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh, working jointly in the School of Public Health's Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences and the School of Medicine's Department of General Internal Medicine at the Center for Research on Health Care. With a background in LGBTQ+ health program delivery and direct service harm reduction, Austen supports several research initiatives promoting the implementation of safer use strategies for people who use drugs in clinical settings. Austen also works in the community as a volunteer harm reduction educator in their spare time. Austen's research interests include community-led drug checking initiatives, quality improvement in addiction treatment, and access to general healthcare for multiply-stigmatized populations.
