Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center
David Edelman, MD, MPH is Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Assistant Program Director of the Primary Care and Social Internal Medicine Residency Program at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He earned his MD and MPH at Columbia University and completed his residency training in the Primary Care and Social Internal Medicine program at Montefiore.
Dr. Edelman’s professional interests are at the intersection of medical education, public health, and the provision of equitable primary care for marginalized populations. As a clinician-educator, he sees patients and precepts residents and medical students at the Comprehensive Health Care Center, a federally qualified healthcare center in the South Bronx, and at OnPoint NYC in East Harlem, a community-based harm reduction organization with a co-located drop-in medical clinic. His scholarly work has broadly focused on structural competency and clinician communication in diverse contexts within an anti-oppressive framework, including research into effective language concordant care for patients with novice English proficiency and strategies to teach and reduce the use of stigmatizing language in the electronic medical record. He is also working with community partners at OnPoint NYC to study and improve healthcare experiences, care coordination, and emergency referrals among people who use drugs. Prior to his current role, Dr. Edelman served as Chief Resident in the Primary Care and Social Internal Medicine program.
