Payam Sazegar obtained his medical degree from the University of British Columbia where he also completed Family Medicine residency in 2008 and fellowship in Addiction Medicine in 2010. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and American Board of Preventive Medicine. He has been practicing Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine in California since 2013. Dr Sazegar serves as Physician in Charge for Primary Care at Kaiser Permanente San Diego's Clairemont Mesa Medical Offices. He is Assistant Professor at Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine and formerly served as the medical school's Family Medicine Specialty Director and Clerkship Director. He is also core faculty member at Kaiser Permanente San Diego Family Medicine Residency Program and formerly served as an Associate Program Director at UBC. As a family medicine educator, he is interested in knowledge translation especially as it pertains to improving care for patients with substance use disorders. He is active in clinical research and peer reviews for several medical journals in Family Medicine, Public Health, Medical Education and Addiction Medicine. Dr Sazegar is a regular speaker and presenter for educational activities of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, American Academy of Family Physicians, Mayo Clinic and American Society of Addiction Medicine. Outside of work he enjoys time with his family, community service, coaching youth sports and traveling.
