Edicer Ramírez-Rivera, MD, is a PGY-3 General Psychiatry Resident at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Medical Sciences Campus and an incoming Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellow. He is an APA/SAMHSA Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) Fellow and a REACH 2.0 Scholar, with work focused on addiction psychiatry, health equity, and improving access to evidence-based treatments for substance use disorders in underserved communities. Dr. Ramírez-Rivera’s academic interests include addiction medicine, trauma-informed care, forensic psychiatry, and systems-level barriers to treatment access. His scholarly work has explored topics such as buprenorphine implementation, neurodevelopmental justice, and sleep-related neuropsychiatric comorbidities. His current research examines physician readiness to initiate medications for opioid use disorder in Puerto Rico and seeks to inform culturally responsive approaches to expanding care. He is dedicated to strengthening addiction treatment systems through research, education, and collaborative clinical practice.
