Moronkeji Fagbemi, MD, FASAM, FACP.
Dr. Moronkeji Fagbemi is an Attending Physician in the Departments of Medicine and Addiction service of the Department of Psychiatry BronxCare Health System, New York City where he heads the Inpatient Detoxification Unit. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of medicine at The Icahn School of Medicine Mount Sinai. His over 25 years of experience spans academic medicine, clinical practice, education and research. He is an advocate for primary care and preventive medicine.
Dr. Fagbemi is an Internist, hospitalist, and Addiction medicine specialist involved in teaching (both bedside and didactic teaching) nurse practitioners, medical students, residents, and fellows. He is a member of the teaching faculty of the Addiction Psychiatry fellowship at BronxCare. He aims at advancing medical science, while improving patient outcomes, and mentoring future generations of healthcare professionals.
Dr. Fagbemi received his medical degree from University of Lagos, Nigeria, and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Harlem Hospital, New York. He received his Addiction Medicine training at BronxCare hospital and is Board Certified both in Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and the American College of Physicians (ACP).
He is a recipient of the BronxCare Health System Addiction Medicine Mentor of the year. Dr. Fagbemi is a member of the NYACP Education Committee, and Abstract /poster judge at both state and national conferences. He has published in several journals and is a speaker at NYACP conferences. His areas of focus presently include narrowing the wide disparity in HIV PrEP use among substance-using minority populations in the south Bronx and addressing the inequity in the cardiovascular risk evaluation of substance using patients.
In his spare time, Dr. Fagbemi enjoys sightseeing, undergraduate advising, mentoring medical students and career counseling for high school seniors.
