Teresa López-Castro, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and an Associate Professor in the Psychology Department of The City College of New York. She earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from the Graduate Center at The City University of New York and has been a faculty member of CCNY’s Psychology Department since 2014. Her research focuses on the substantial overlap between substance use and mental health problems, particularly trauma-related disorders, and the development of holistic, evidence-based models of health care for people who use drugs. Dr. López-Castro conducts community-engaged research in partnership with the nation’s first overdose prevention center, located in New York City. In collaboration with Dr. Aaron Fox of the Division of General Internal Medicine at Einstein/Montefiore, Dr. López-Castro is currently funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse to expand the health services offered at syringe services programs to include evidence-based PTSD care.
