Michelle Niculescu, a Clinical Algorithm Scientist for the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), holds a PhD in pharmacology and an MA in clinical mental health counseling. She is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. Her doctoral research focused on animal models of psychostimulant craving and reward, as well as the underlying neuronal pathways. During her postdoctoral studies, Michelle transitioned to clinical work, exploring the interplay between genetic variants and behaviors associated with substance use disorders, as well as their effects on pharmacological treatment outcomes. With nearly 20 years in academia, she developed a strong foundation in both research and clinical practice. In her full-time role at ASAM, Michelle applies her expertise to advance the organization's mission in addiction medicine, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes.
