Dr. Freedman has been a dedicated ASAM member and officer for the past 27 years. Currently he serves as Quality Improvement Council Co-chair. He also works as a Senior Medical Director for CVS Health and Medical Director at The Recovery Research Network. Previous leadership roles have included MA Public Health Hospitals’ system quality chief, public health hospital Chief Medical Officer (Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Boston), director of two outpatient MAT programs, Clinical Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine and Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He maintains board-certifications in addiction medicine, internal medicine and gastroenterology. Ken teaches clinicians on the medically appropriate and humane treatment of pain disorders. His professional commitment is to facilitate health care delivery toward the integration of medical care and substance use disorders in respectful and innovative ways.
He earned a B.S. from M.I.T. (1983), M.S. from Stanford (1984), M.D. from Tel Aviv University (1989), M.B.A. from University of Hartford (2004). He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Albany Medical Center Hospital and a fellowship in Gastroenterology at University of Connecticut Health Sciences Center.
