Benjamin B. Swart, MD is an addiction medicine specialist and internal medicine hospitalist affiliated with the University of Minnesota and Hennepin County Medical Center. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota as well as training in Clinical Tropical, Migrant, and Travel Medicine through the University of Minnesota's Department of Global Medicine. He holds a Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers’ Health (CTropMed®) from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. His academic interests include addiction medicine in cross-cultural settings, khat addiction, and naloxone infusions. Currently he lives in East Africa, where he has partnered full-time with public instutions to establish formal inpatient/outpatient treatment centers mainly focused on the treatment of khat addiction and khat-induced psychosis.
