Angélica M. Fuentes Armesto, MD, DABFM, is a Board-certified Family Medicine physician and Addiction Medicine Fellow at the Universidad Central del Caribe in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Cellular Molecular Biology from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, where she was on the Dean’s List and was recognized as a member of the National Honor Society. She later completed her Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in St. Kitts. Dr. Fuentes Armesto completed her Family Medicine residency at the University of Puerto Rico, where she served as Academic Chief Resident in her third year. She has received several awards, including the Faculty and Resident as Teacher Awards from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. Currently, Dr. Fuentes Armesto is pursuing a fellowship in Addiction Medicine at the Universidad Central del Caribe, with research focused on substance use during breastfeeding. She has also contributed to various research projects, including large randomized clinical trials, related to preventive care and maternal-infant health. In addition to her academic work, Dr. Fuentes Armesto is committed to community service, organizing health fairs and educational programs for underserved populations in Puerto Rico, with a focus on chronic disease management and mental health. She is dedicated to improving health outcomes through primary care, prevention, and the treatment of substance use disorders, with a particular emphasis on preventive medicine in addiction care.
