Henry X. Nieves-Diaz, MD, DABFM, is a dedicated physician with a foundation in interdisciplinary science, family medicine, and addiction medicine. His academic and professional journey reflects a steadfast commitment to improving health outcomes through prevention, primary care, and innovative approaches to addiction treatment.
Dr. Nieves-Diaz began his academic career at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Science. This multidisciplinary education ignited his passion for understanding complex health issues through diverse scientific perspectives. His undergraduate studies laid the groundwork for his lifelong dedication to preventive medicine and addressing the root causes of disease.
He pursued his medical degree at Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in Mexico, where he gained comprehensive clinical experience and developed a strong interest in patient-centered care. His exposure to diverse patient populations reinforced his commitment to holistic healthcare, emphasizing preventive strategies to enhance health and well-being.
Dr. Nieves-Diaz completed his residency in Family Medicine at Manatí Medical Center in Manatí, Puerto Rico. Here, he refined his expertise in primary care, chronic disease management, and health promotion. He is deeply committed to fostering strong patient relationships, recognizing trust and collaboration as essential components of effective care.
To further his specialization, Dr. Nieves-Diaz is currently doing a Fellowship in Addiction Medicine at Universidad Central del Caribe in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. This advanced training enabled him to address substance use disorders using evidence-based treatments, harm reduction strategies, and advocacy for reducing stigma. He is particularly passionate about integrating addiction medicine into primary care, ensuring comprehensive support for lasting recovery.
As a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine (DABFM), Dr. Nieves-Diaz continues to advance healthcare through education, prevention, and compassionate care, striving to foster healthier communities through interdisciplinary approaches.
