Cailean Dakota MacColl, BA, BS (she/they) is a Cree/Métis 2-Spirit MS3 at the University of Minnesota Medical School. She received a BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry, and a BA in Comparative Literature with special focus on film from the University of Oregon. Past research projects have included comparative film analysis and ethnobotany, while current research areas include Indigenous ethics, medical education, and addictions medicine. Dakota is a student co-constructor of the 2SLGBTQIA+ Serve curriculum at the University of Minnesota Medical School and utilizes creative narration and adult learning skills to create and implement sustainable case-based learning sessions. She has also taught about and led discussions on Indigenous traditional tobacco use for underclassmen during their Respiratory block. She is passionate about coalescing aspects of traditional healing, ceremony, and western medicine. Her professional interests include adult education, sexual health and wellness, harm reduction, cutaneous malignancies and dermatological disparities in Indian Country, healing informed and gender affirming care, resiliency, and traditional plant medicine use.
