Dr. Honora Englander is a Professor in the Department of Medicine (Division of General Internal Medicine Section of Addiction Medicine) at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Dr. Englander is the founder and Principal Investigator of the Improving Addiction Care Team (IMPACT), a nationally recognized model for hospital-based addiction care that includes physicians, social workers, nurses, and peers with lived experience in recovery. Before IMPACT, she developed, implemented and scaled the Care Transitions Innovation (C-TRAIN), a nationally recognized intervention to improve hospital-to-home care transitions for uninsured and publicly insured adults. Dr Englander is working to change the standard of care for hospitalized adults with substance use disorder by redesigning care and shifting our view of addiction from one of shame and stigma, towards one that embraces belonging, treatment, and healing. Dr. Englander has received numerous awards for her work transforming health systems including being named one of the Portland Business Journal’s ‘Top Forty under 40’ and one of the American College of Physician’s Hospitalist TOP Docs. She has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers about hospital-based addiction care, including in the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and the Journal of General Internal Medicine. She was awarded a US Fulbright Award to study opioid use disorder care delivery systems in France in 2023-2024.
