Dr. Sameer Imtiaz (PhD) is a Staff Scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, and a Member of the Ontario Node of the Canadian Research Initiative in Substance Matters. He holds a MSc in Epidemiology from the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University and a PhD in Medical Science and Addiction Studies from the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto, with specialization in substance use and addiction, epidemiological methods, and health policy.
Guided by a social determinants of health perspective, Dr. Imtiaz conducts epidemiological research centered on substance use and addiction, especially the evaluation of programs and policies. His research spans the assessment of risk factors, examination of health outcomes, characterization of treatment access, evaluation of novel interventions and impacts of policy changes. The end goal of this research is to inform clinical and policy interventions geared towards improving the health of people who use substances.
