Ekaterina (Kate) Pivovarova, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Family Medicine and Community Health and Emergency Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School and a licensed clinical psychologist with a forensic specialization. Dr. Pivovarova’s research applies implementation science to improve access to evidence-based substance use and mental health treatment for individuals with criminal legal involvement. Her work focuses on strengthening collaboration between courts, jails, and community health care systems to enhance treatment engagement and retention. She is the lead multiple Principal Investigator of an NIH/National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) R01 examining interagency collaboration to improve access to medications for opioid use disorder in drug courts and a multiple Principal Investigator of the NIDA-funded Massachusetts Justice Community Overdose Innovation Network 2.0 Clinical Research Hub RM1 award. Dr. Pivovarova also serves as the Director of the Education and Scientific Training Unit and Co-Director of the Implementation Science Unit for the National Institute of Mental Health P50 Center for Accelerating Practices to End Suicide through Technology Translation (CAPES). She holds national leadership roles in justice–health research, training, and field building, with a focus on advancing evidence-informed policy and practice for individuals in the criminal legal system.
