Dr. Julio Nunes is a fourth-year research-track psychiatry resident at Yale and Chief Resident of Outpatient and Addiction Services at the West Haven VA, Connecticut. He serves on the Board of Directors of Doctors for Drug Policy Reform, a physician-led organization advancing evidence-based drug policy change. Clinically, Nunes provides care at the Chronic Pain and Opioid Safety Program, a multidisciplinary service focused on veterans living with chronic pain who use substances. His research with Yale's Pain and Addiction Interaction Neuroscience (PAIN) Lab examines the social determinants of health at the intersection of pain, addiction, and treatment access.
His work has been recognized by various professional organizations, including the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, the College on Problems of Drug Dependence, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, and the American Society of Hispanic Psychiatry. He is a Laughlin Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists and a Leadership Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
