Dr. Michael Baca-Atlas, MD, FASAM is board certified in family and addiction medicine and is a clinical associate professor in the departments of family medicine and psychiatry at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He completed medical school at University of Maryland in Baltimore. He completed his Family Medicine residency at UNC as well as an Addiction Medicine fellowship at UNC in the department of psychiatry. He serves as the associate medical director for the Tobacco Treatment Program and a medical consultant for the UNC Horizons program serving pregnant and postpartum women with SUDs. Dr. Baca-Atlas has a special interest in the intersection of physical and mental health and addiction. He serves as medical director of UNC REACH Enhanced Primary Care where he sees patients with serious mental illness and substance use disorders. He also serves as a medical editor and contributor to Primary Care RAP (Reviews and Perspectives), a medical education podcast covering a variety of addiction medicine and primary care topics.
