Matthew Tan, MD is Chief Resident in Quality and Safety in Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Diego and the VA La Jolla Medical Center. His work centers on improving care for patients with substance use disorders, with particular focus on inpatient addiction treatment implementation and reducing patient-directed discharges. Dr. Tan currently leads a quality improvement initiative evaluating an inpatient substance use treatment order set to expand timely access to evidence-based therapy. His broader interests include infectious diseases, HIV care, and medical education. He plans to pursue infectious diseases fellowship training while continuing to advance systems-level improvements in addiction care.
