Morgan Smith is a second-year medical student at the Washington State University Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine in Spokane, Washington. She is originally from Sammamish, Washington, and graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and a minor in Music.
Morgan co-leads the Harm Reduction Action Team in Spokane. In this role, she established a biweekly, student-run mutual aid safer smoking supply distribution event to address gaps in local harm reduction services. She also worked with Seattle & King County Public Health (SKCPH) in the Overdose Prevention and Response Department as a research fellow, where she conducted research on the illicit drug supply.
Prior to medical school, Morgan worked as an Emergency Department Technician in Santa Barbara, volunteered with Santa Barbara Street Medicine, and served as a Harm Reduction Education Specialist at the SKCPH Needle Exchange in Seattle.
Morgan is passionate about drug user health and views harm reduction as an integral part of her future medical practice. She will receive her MD in 2028 and hopes to care for people who use drugs as a physician.
