Cynthia Santos, MD is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and a board-certified physician in Emergency Medicine, Addiction Medicine, and Medical Toxicology. She serves as a Medical Toxicology Consultant for the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System and an Addiction Medicine Consultant at University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. Dr. Santos is the Principal Investigator for several federal and state grants focused on improving pain management, expanding medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), and advancing harm-reduction strategies in emergency department and community settings. Her work integrates emergency care, addiction treatment, and public health approaches through programs such as emergency department peer navigator models, mobile opioid response teams, and innovative opioid-sparing pain management initiatives.
