The Open-Access Model (OAM) is an evidence-based approach to scaling up MT, which works within the current regulatory framework while prioritizing patient preferences and a harm reduction philosophy. Patients receive methadone the same day they enroll, regardless of ability to pay, and have integrated primary and psychiatric care, individual and group counseling, and wraparound services. This didactic will describe key components of the OAM and identify concrete steps participants could take to integrate this model into their own clinical settings.

Identify key barriers to accessing and engaging in outpatient methadone treatment along with legal modifications to reduce those barriers.
Appraise the evidence supporting the open-access model.
Identify concrete steps they could take to implement components of the open-access model for their own clinical settings
